MGM Resorts International has taken a significant step towards achieving its sustainability goals with the signing of a power purchase agreement with Escape Solar, bringing the company closer to its target of procuring 100% renewable electricity in North America by 2030. The 25-year agreement will more than double the company’s access to clean solar electricity, bolstering its commitment to sustainability.

The agreement centers around the Escape Solar + Storage project, set to be built in Lincoln County, Nevada. Expected to come online in early 2026, the project will generate renewable electricity equivalent to the annual power consumption of over 28,000 average US homes. This initiative aligns with MGM Resorts’ current usage of solar power for 90% of daytime needs at 11 of its Las Vegas Strip properties and extends coverage to 100% of these properties’ daytime requirements, including early evening hours for purposes such as exterior lighting.

Bill Hornbuckle, CEO and President of MGM Resorts, emphasized the importance of this agreement in the company’s pursuit of climate goals, stating, “This agreement is the next step toward the achievement of our climate goals. We have our eyes on meeting our science-based targets and goal of sourcing 100% of our electricity in North America from renewable sources by 2030.” He continued, “As we continue the journey toward greater sustainability, we remain dedicated to finding new ways to reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources and inspire others to join in building a more sustainable world for generations to come.”

Jill Daniel, CEO of Estuary Power, expressed excitement about contributing to MGM Resorts’ renewable energy objectives through the Escape Solar project, highlighting the significant carbon emissions reduction and economic benefits for Lincoln County, Nevada. She stated, “Estuary is delighted to contribute to MGM Resorts’ industry-leading renewable energy objectives by supplying solar energy and battery capacity from our Escape Solar project.” Daniel added, “MGM Resorts’ purchase of renewable energy from Escape will reduce carbon emissions by nearly 250,000 metric tons annually. In addition, Escape will generate substantial economic benefits for Lincoln County, Nevada as the first utility-scale solar project in the county and will create over 250 well-paying construction jobs.”

MGM Resorts has a track record of implementing renewable energy projects, including the Mega Solar Array in Las Vegas and solar installations at various properties. This latest agreement with Escape Solar reinforces the company’s commitment to sustainability and marks a significant milestone in its journey towards a more environmentally friendly future.
